This piece began as a little experiment about letting go and allowing the watercolour to move first and seeing what kind of presence would form inside it. The figure appeared slowly, with that calm expression that comes from being deep in your own thoughts. The leaves settled around her almost like company, giving her a space that feels private and steady.
There’s a softness in the way she sits within the greenery, as if she’s taking a moment before stepping back into the world. The mixed media layers give her depth without making her feel heavy, and the foliage adds that gentle sense of being surrounded by something living and quiet.
Jungle Study holds that pause; a small moment of stillness where everything feels close, calm, and uncomplicated.
Jungle Study is a mixed media piece, measuring 297×420mm on archival artist paper. The piece comes with the option to include framing in either a beautiful oak, black or white frame with matt board.
She’d been coming to this spot since she was a kid. Back when her mum would pack sandwiches, sunscreen, and a single can of red cola as a treat. Years later, and she finds herself back in the same spot.
Now, with her hat pulled low and the familiar stripes of her towel beneath her, she finally had a moment to breathe. No deadlines, no rushing, no one needing anything from her. Just the steady sound of the water and the comfort of an old habit she’d never grown out of.
Red Cola captures her favourite kind of afternoon. Simple, quiet, and shaped by the small traditions that make us who we are.
Red Cola is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas, measuring 297×420mm, with the option to have it beautifully framed and ready to hang in a Tasmanian Oak floating frame.
Every school holidays at Nan’s place in Toogoom followed the same rhythm.. Days at the beach, sandy feet in the car, and swimmers hung over the bathroom rail to dry before dinner.
I remember racing my sister and cousins into the water, staying in until our fingers wrinkled, and then piling back into Nan’s house where everything smelled like sunscreen and salt, and the sound of her 60’s dance tracks competing for attention, as The Price is Right, or Family Feud blared in the background. The swimmers always ended up over the towel rail, dripping quietly while Nan fussed around the kitchen and asked who wanted to go feed the chickens.
Toogoom Swims captures a simple childhood moment, the end of a beach day, the comfort of Nan’s house, and the small details spent with grandparents that stay with us for life.
Toogoom Swims is acrylic on 20×20cm canvas, with the option to have framed and ready to hang in a beautiful Tasmanian Oak Floating Frame.
